Protect Your Personal Information
Never share personal details with strangers online. This includes your full name, address, phone number, email, workplace, school, or social media handles. Remember that you're talking to someone you've just met.
Use a nickname instead of your real name. Keep conversations focused on general topics until you feel completely comfortable, though exercise caution even then.
Video and Camera Safety
While SecretVideo does not record video chats, the person on the other end might. Be mindful of your background and what's visible on camera. Avoid showing:
- Personal documents or mail with your address
- Family photos that reveal personal information
- Your workplace or school logo
- Valuable items that could attract unwanted attention
Consider using a neutral background or virtual background if you're concerned about privacy.
Audio Privacy
Use headphones to prevent others in your environment from overhearing your conversations. This also improves audio quality for the person you're chatting with.
Recognizing Red Flags
Be cautious if someone:
- Asks for personal information immediately
- Pressures you to do something that makes you uncomfortable
- Attempts to move the conversation to another platform quickly
- Shares inappropriate content or makes you feel unsafe
- Claims to be someone they obviously aren't
- Asks for money or financial assistance
If you encounter any of these behaviors, use the "Next" button to end the conversation and "Report" to alert our moderation team.
Using the Report Feature
SecretVideo includes a report button during every chat. If someone violates our community guidelines:
- Click the "Report" button immediately
- Select the reason for reporting
- Our team will review and take appropriate action
- The user will be removed from your chat
False reporting can result in restrictions, so only report genuine violations.
Meet in Public Places
If you decide to meet someone in person after building trust online:
- Always meet in a public, well-lit location
- Tell a friend or family member where you're going
- Arrange your own transportation to and from the meeting
- Stay sober and maintain your judgment
- Trust your instincts—leave if something feels off
Trust Your Instincts
If a conversation makes you feel uncomfortable for any reason, it's perfectly okay to end it immediately. Click "Next" and move on. You're under no obligation to continue any chat that doesn't feel right.
Remember that online interactions should be enjoyable and respectful. Your comfort and safety come first.
